Job Description

Vacancies are available for Nurses at NHS and Private Nursing Homes in the United Kingdom. Nursing in the UK opens you up to the potential of progression in many avenues of healthcare. All of which can enable you to gain new experiences, learn new skills, and define your own career path.

What requirements do you need to be eligible?

  • Sri Lanka Nursing Council / Sri Lanka Medical Council Registration
  • Nursing Degree / Nursing Diploma (at least 3 years)
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical work experience in a Sri Lankan Government hospital
  • Fluent in English (speaking, listening, reading and writing)

Step 01

Step 02

Complete IELTS + CBT Exams

To work as a nurse in the UK, you must demonstrate a minimum level of English as required by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in the UK. In the UK, there are two options,

  • IELTS (Academic)
  • OET

You need to complete either one of the two language requirements to continue the process.

IELTS Requirement

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a global testing system used to determine an applicant’s proficiency of the English Language. The IELTS is made up of four separate exam portions: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. You need to complete Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening all four categories with an overall of 7 marks. (Writing 6.5 is accepted).

OET Requirement

The Occupational English Test [OET] is an English Language Assessment accepted predominantly for healthcare professionals specially for nurses. Professionals who seek to study, work or migrate to certain countries can use OET as evidence of their English Language proficiency. You need to complete Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening all four categories with a minimum of B pass. (Writing C+ is accepted).

Step 03

Register with the NMC

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is the professional regulator for nurses in the UK.

To become a registered nurse in the UK you must complete the NHS employer induction program along with the OSCE within 3 months upon arriving in the UK. Then, you are ready to register as a nurse with the NMC.

First you need to register in the NMC website to continue the process. Once you complete the registration then you will have to book your CBT Test.

Step 04

Complete CBT Exam

The test of competence (ToC) is a two-part test that assesses the essential professional knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for safe and effective nursing practice in the UK. It has two parts to complete.

1. Part one of the Test of Competence 2021 is a computer-based test known as the CBT.
2. Part one of the Test of Competence 2021 is a practical test known as OSCE.

You must finish part 1 CBT test before participating for the interviews. Once you complete the CBT test they will update your test results within 48 hours.
